Meet Tanika Vellucci
Dr. Vellucci writes children’s stories about historical fiction to capture the interest of young readers beyond the classroom and textbooks. She has published two books: “Ashant and Kamari Unlocking Their Past” and “Ashanti and Kamari a Day at the Museum.”
Each book focuses on the geography, culture, and accomplishments of ancient African kingdoms. In addition to her books, she has also published companion books that are aligned to state standards to help students improve their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and research skills. Dr. Vellucci’s characters include Ashanti and Kamari, two siblings that share a close bond of love and respect for each other. Her historical fiction books teach kids about ancient civilizations and instill self-pride in one’s ancestry.
Dr. Vellucci is the Instructional Lead for Humanities at Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk Connecticut. She is also a proud member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, INC where she serves as the Second Vice President and Literacy Chairperson. She uses her crocheting talent to create Ashanti and Kamari dolls that children love to have on their bookshelves as they read her stories. She also enjoys reading, writing, gardening, and spending time with her family.
